Church

Amble Parish was formed out of Warkworth Parish in 1869. It consists of the township of Amble, Gloster Hill and Coquet Island. The church was consecrated in 1870 having been built to the designs of Messrs Austin and Johnson of Newcastle and is early Decorated in style. The organ was installed in 1876 and the east window dedicated in 1928. A choir vestry was added in 1929. The west window depicting events in the life of St. Cuthbert was commissioned for the centenary in 1970. [The Newcastle Diocesan Gazetteer (1982), page 93.]

A brass plate on a table reads:

In Memory of
THE ROBSON FAMILY
of North Togston
who were accidentally killed
1st Dec. 1943
Sylvia (9 yrs); Ethel (7 yrs); Margery (5 yrs); William Matthew (3 yrs); Shiela (1 yr).

A brass plate on a bookstand reads:

History

A framed notice describing the stained windows at the west end of the church, which are dedicated to the memory of JOHN SMART (1911-1954), reads:

THESE WINDOWS WERE INSTALLED
AT THE CENTENARY OF
AMBLE PARISH CHURCH
18th OCTOBER 1970
THE GIFT OF MARY SMITH
A LIFELONG WORSHIPPER AT THIS CHURCH
