Church

The church of St. John the Baptist, built by subscription in 1876, at a cost of £2,595, on a site given by the Duke of Northumberland, is a building of stone, consisting of chancel, nave, north aisle, north and south porches, and an embattled western tower with spire: there are 250 sittings. The register dates from the year 1877. The living is a vicarage, yearly value £200, with residence, in the gift of the Duke of Northumberland K.G. and held since 1887 by the Rev. David Moore M.A. of Exeter College, Oxford. [Kelly's Directory of Durham and Northumberland (1890), page 703.]


A wooden notice board in the porch is dedicated to:

A brass plate behind the choir stalls:

Brass eagle lectern has this dedication:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD,
AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF LADY C. GRANVILLE, WHO DIED MAY 2ND 1889, AGED 73.
THIS LECTERN WAS PLACED IN THIS CHURCH BY HER FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS, EASTER DAY, MARCH 29TH 1891.

The litany desk carries this dedication:

This Litany Desk is erected by some Old Boys of his school
at Alnmouth who were with him from 1879 to 1908.
