Newcastle Courant 13/12/1844 A large clock has just been placed in the tower of Bedlington church, by Mr Waldie, clockmaker, Blyth. It has been purchased by subscription, and will be a great convenience to the inhabitants of the village.
Newcastle Courant 5/12/1851 William Crawford, a poor shoemaker, aged 90, left Bedlington recently, carrying a "kit," weighing above 30lbs., but, without a change of raiment, and with only a few pence, to walk to Nantwich, his native place, a distance of nearly 200 miles, hoping to get work there with his only brother, a shoemaker, and to die there. This journey he actually accomplished in three weeks, arriving on a Sunday, when he was recognized by an old lady coming from church, though he had not been there for forty years, and was overpowered on being informed that his brother and brother's son were both dead. He went to the widow's house, was attacked with diarrhoea, was removed to the workhouse, and soon died.
