The parish of St Mark's, Byker came into being in 1904, although the present building was not completed until 1906. It is a parish which has sought to maintain a Bible based ministry. In recent years the large scale redevelopment of the area has considerably reduced the size of the parish population. The church itself has been extensively altered to incoprorate a hall at the rear of the building and meeting rooms and other facilities in the south aisle.
