Church

Built as a chapel of ease to Newburn by the Collingwood family of Dissington Hall. Architect Green of Newcastle who was responsible for the Theatre Royal, Grey Street, Newcastle. They also built Holy Saviour, Sugley about the same time and there are striking similarities of design, the square nave and shallow chancel before the neo Gothic of the Victorian era. The church is very much as originally built and furnished. There are two hatchments of Collingwood family. [The Newcastle Diocesan Gazetteer (1982), page 76.]
