The church of St. Paul is a stone building in the Early English style, erected in 1864, and consists of chancel, nave, square tower with spire containing 6 bells, and has a clock with chimes. The register dates from the year 1861. The living is a vicarage, yearly value £300, with residence, in the gift of the Duke of Northumberland, and held by the Rev. Robert Faulding Wheeler, M.A., of Christ's College, Cambridge. [Kelly's Directory of Northumberland and Durham (1873), page 510.]
