EP 52/5 baptisms and burials 1774-1795 - the following is written on the first page:
The Foundation and building of this Church was begun at the expence of this Parish and other good benefactors in the year of our Lord 1659 and afterwards finished at the cost of the same Parishioners and was Consecrated for the Worship and Service of God by the Name of Christs Church by John Lord Bishop of Durham the 5 Day of July Anno 1668 Thos Dockwray then Vicar.

Newcastle Chronicle 2/8/1783 Wednesday morning, a chimney-sweeper's boy about ten years old was unfortunately suffocated in the chimney of a brewhouse, in North Shields.
Berwick Advertiser 24/7/1813 On Saturday afternoon, a dreadful accident happened at Collingwood Main Colliery, near North Shields. By an explosion of fire-damp; eight of the men were killed, and two severely burnt. Among the sufferers were Mr Hope, one of the viewers; Mr Wild, an overman; and two young men of the name Richardson, who, having no parents, maintained their grandmother (now in her 102d year) in a manner which did them great credit. A number of horses were also suffocated.

Newcastle Courant 1/2/1839 [death] The 25th, aged 25, Robert, son of Mr Robert Pigg, mariner of North Shields.
Newcastle Courant 18/2/1848 On Tuesday, upwards of one thousand children, belonging to the various schools of North Shields, were admitted, on payment of one penny, to see Hill's panoramic views of Palestine, exhibiting in the Mechanics' Hall, Norfolk Street.
Newcastle Courant 10/8/1849 WAR MEDAL.- Mr John Steuart, of Bedford-street, North Shields, has had a medal granted to him for his services as quarter-master on board the "Circe" frigate in Lord Duncan's action, on the 11th of October, 1797, off Camperdown.
Newcastle Courant 20/2/1874 The Congregational Church in Tynemouth has just been completed by the addition of the spire. The contract for this was taken at £1,250. the work has gone on through the whole of the winter without a single accident to either men or machinery.
